A seven-man United States congressional delegation says they are impressed with the level of progress made in Liberia's recovery program.

The Head of the US Foreign Relation congressional team, Mr. Howard L. Berman said there was already a great deal of support from the American government for Liberia.

Mr. Howard spoke Monday at a luncheon held for the US congressional delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Capitol Hill.

"We've come to see what is being done by the Liberian government; we got excellent briefings on road and electricity projects," he said.

He pointed out that his delegation is more passionate to advocate for Liberia considering the level of devastation done to the country.

"There is nothing like seeing and getting first hand information for yourself," he added.

Earlier, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf acknowledged the support of the U.S. Congress to Liberia.

President Johnson-Sirleaf noted that the US Congress has worked with Liberia to renew the nation and restructure the economy. She told the delegation the Liberia's commitment remains strong amidst challenges and difficulties.

She urged the Americans to see Liberia as a partner and friend adding, "we like this friendship as mutual in strength."

Prior to the congressional delegation's visit at the Foreign Ministry, they met with officials of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) where they were briefed on phase II of the Emergency Power Project (EPP II).

The delegation also visited the Ministry of Public Works where the infrastructure is being rehabilitated by USAID.

Deputy Public Works Minister for Administration, Togba Ngana in a power point presentation, told the congressional delegation that the ministry is faced with series of problems.

He said the country road network has collapsed, noting that the road sector is government's priority.

The Berman led congressional delegation included Congressman George Miller of California, Representative Ed Royce also of California, Congressmen Tom Davis and Jim Costa of California.

Other members of the delegation were Congressman Donald M. Payne of New Jersey's 10th Congressional District and Congresswoman Linda Sanchez of California.
