Keren — The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Amna Nurhusein, said that efforts are being exerted to make ancient monasteries and spectacular landscape, including mountains in the Anseba region source of tourist attraction and income. She made the remarks while visiting the historical Debresina Monastery.
Ms. Amna told ERINA that the region not only has spectacular landscape and salubrious weather but is also endowed with historical monasteries such as Debresina, Dearit and Tsaeda-Emba, as well as historical trenches and the like. In this regard, she indicated that vigorous endeavors are being made to put in place the necessary infrastructure facilities so as to effectively harness these rich tourism potentials. The Minister further called on the people and government institutions to work diligently in preserving the resources in view of their major contribution in developing the tourism sector.
The branch head of the Ministry in the region, Mr. Megos Asgedom, explained on his part that different activities are being carried out to promote service-rendering institutions in the region and familiarize such resources. Stating that the office is striving to acquaint the youth with the nation's history through organizing visits to the historical sites, he stressed the significance of the task in promoting domestic tourism.
