A technical team set up to that effect, met in Yaounde yesterday.

The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze, yesterday underscored the need to hasten the process for making operational the newly created airline company, Cameroon Airlines Corporation (CAMAIR Co). He was speaking to journalists after presiding at two important meetings, one with the technical team charged with working out the formula for facilitating the effective takeoff of the new company and the other with authorities of Elysean Airlines Company who wish to take over the management of CAMAIR Co internal flights ahead of the effective commencement of the company. The meetings follow the signing of an order by the Prime Minister on 26 June, 2008, creating a technical team for the putting in place of CAMAIR Co.

Minister Motaze told pressmen that the State needed the minimum infrastructure to kick start the company. One of such, he said, is the acquisition of planes for the company. "We are looking forward to acquiring three types of planes to serve national, regional and international lines", he said. CAMAIR Co, he said, needs to take off within the next few weeks. According to Minister Motaze, who doubles as president of the technical team, a call for tender will soon be launched to design the logo of the new company. "CAMAIR Co will need to be registered at the International Air Transport Association before effectively going operational", Motaze said.

From every indication, Motaze and his team have resolved to quicken things for CAMAIR Co. He told journalists another meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow, with officials of the Elysean Airlines which presently operating in Cameroon and other stakeholders. The company, he said has expressed the wish to run the internal flights for CAMAIR Co pending the latter's full implantation. "We have a hell of problems with our north-south line. Wednesday's meeting will bring together stakeholders so they can discuss what should be done to revamp air transport, notably the north south line", Motaze said, stating inter alia that an agreement will be signed in the near future between the government and Elysean Airlines to that effect.
