Kampala — THE Government should support institutes that provide vocational skills as a way of addressing unemployment, a Makerere University lecturer has said.
"The issue of jobs is still a major challenge in Uganda and the only way to address it is by ensuring that students do courses that will give them skills for jobs," Viola Naluwooza, a senior lecturer at the Institute of Languages, said.
She said institutes that provide vocational skills such as tailoring, carpentry, motor vehicle repairs and brick-laying should receive government aid. "Vocational colleges need support to construct laboratories and libraries," she said at a function at Lady Valerie Vocational Business College in Matugga.
Naluwooza hailed the Government for the scrapping of income tax on private educational institutions saying the move would help them grow.
