THREE internally displaced children died and four others were injured when a rusty grenade they were playing with exploded in their hands on Sunday.

The UPDF 5th Division publicist, Capt. Deo Akiiki, identified the deceased as Charles Ocen and Patricia Apio, both aged four and Okidi, who died from Kalongo Catholic Mission Hospital.

He identified the injured as Patrick Kilama, 3, Brian Ochaka, 4, Francis Chanogura, 3, and five-year-old only Bol-Geto, who are still in hospital.

Akiiki said the incident occurred at Lira-Kato IDP camp in Agago county, Pader district.

"People in the north should take precaution on how they move about with their daily activities, especially in the fields. They should monitor the objects their children play with and report any suspicious objects to the army."

Chairman of the disaster management committee Charles Uma said IDPs had shunned returning to their homes because there were unexploded ordinances in their villages.
