Assistant inspector general of police in charge of crime services Tuesday hailed Sierra Leoneans for observing a peaceful election which is free of violence and intimidation.
Francis Munu told journalists in Freetown that the peaceful conduct of the local council elections across the country gave the police "little work to do." "Citizens need to be commended for the manner in which they went about the whole process. We only hope that they will continue to keep the peace during the post-elections period," he said.
At present, the police have not envisaged any form of post-elections violence across the country, he said adding that they will continue their monitoring until NEC announces the final results.
"We have received few reports of pending threats to losers. We will not tolerate any form of violence from supporters of political parties after the announcement of results by NEC," he said.
Munu also noted that the police would continue to demonstrate their neutrality in the discharge of their duties. He said: "We will not interfere with the electoral process in Sierra Leone." He advised all supporters of political parties to be law-abiding and accept the outcome of the results.
