Harare — FACT or fantasy, that remains to be seen when Rasta Kwasa musician Dino Mudondo finally releases his eighth album on which he says he would rope in some of Zimbabwe's best musical talents such as Nicholas Zakaria, Andy Brown and Dumi Ngulube as his backers.
The diminutive artiste - whose latest release Divisi is doing well musically especially with the track Handirambe Ishe - described the project as "a make-or-break affair", one that would stamp his true music identity.
"It is going to bear my true stamp and signature as an artiste and also define who I am really, musically. I know this might surprise my fan base, but the truth is that I have started rehearsing for the album," he said.
Dino said he was yet to finalise the deal for the project with Madzibaba Zakaria whom he said would assist him in bringing out the Lucky Dube reggae feel on the yet-to-be-titled album.
"I want to go the Lucky Dube way fused with the Chimurenga vibe. Madzibaba (Nicholas Zakaria), who will be my co-producer, will help me bring out the reggae feel. We have already sealed the deal with Andy Brown who will be one of the guitarists together with Dumi Ngulube," he said.
Dino said the other artistes to be incorporated on the album include Jairos Hamba Hamba, Blessing Mparutsa, Tererai Mugwadi and Diana Samkange.
He said this star-studded line-up marked the beginning of his plans to restructure his backing outfit - Muffin Family - to an "Zimbabwe All Stars" outfit. "I want to come up with a hundred percent Zimbabwean traditional beat, hence this line-up of artistes from a cross-section of local music genres," he said.
Dino said the album would be dedicated to the contributions that his colleagues in the music industry made over the years in shaping him into the musician that he has become today. "It's an album of celebration," he said.
If it fructifies, it won't be the first time that the dread-locked Dino has roped in other musicians on his projects. Previously, he has done it with great success by collaborating with Willom Tight, Nonsinkelelo Masunda aka Nonsi and Fifi.
Meanwhile, the musician has revealed that he would be releasing two DVD packages, one of which would be the 12-track Dino Mudondo: The DVD, comprising his hit songs such as Makorokoto, Chirangano, Ndichakumirira, Amhlope, Bhazi, Marengenya and Jatropha. He said the second would feature artistes from Chigutiro Stable like Diana Samkange, Blush and Honey Vibes.
