Kampala — Kisenyi LCIII Councillor Salim Uhuru could have no opposition in his quest to replace Celestino Mindra as Uganda Professional Boxing Commission boss.
While Uhuru is warming up for the seat, Mindra is still undecided on whether he should go for a third term at the August 2 polls.
"I will not comment anything now and I cannot discuss the issue over the phone," Mindra said.
Mindra, who has been at the helm of the boxing body since 1999, also couldn't confirm recent reports that he was throwing in the towel.
The assembly will elect a new team to run the sport for the next four years.
The polls come in the wake of discontent among promoters, who accuse Mindra of poor leadership.
Uhuru, who owns an amateur club, was upbeat. "I am standing for the position big time and I want to take professional boxing to a different level," he stated.
"I am not fighting Mindra and I want to thank him for what he has done for the sport," Uhuru stated.
