Eritrea Festival in Riyadh and its environs, Saudi Arabia, opened yesterday under the theme "2008: A Year of Development and Resistance." The Eritrean Minister of Health, Mr. Saleh Meki, opened the Festival.

Mr. Mohammed Omar Mahmoud, Eritrea's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said that this year's Festival would as usual be held with patriotic zeal. Similarly, the chairman of the festival coordinating committee and the head of public affairs at the Eritrean Embassy, Mr. Ekud Hamid Ekud, indicated that this year's festival is special, as it is being held at a time when the border issue has reached legal and technical conclusion and when the nation's border is clearly demarcated on the map. He further expressed conviction that the Eritrean people at home and abroad would rebuff enemy hostilities through reinforcing national unity.

Different educational programs, sports competition, cultural performances and the like would feature in the course of the 3-day festival.

Meanwhile, a farewell barbeque was hosted for the Eritrean football team in Riyadh that would participate in the forthcoming 3rd National Youth Festival and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of NUEYS which is scheduled to be held in Sawa next week.
