FIVE unidentified persons were feared hacked to death at Ayobo, a surburb of Lagos yesterday and several others injured in a clash between land owners in the community and a land speculator.
Several cars, commercial and private, were reportedly vandalised while some were set ablaze.
Police sources said a land speculator, Mr Bello Ekundayo, had earlier claimed ownership of the entire community following which the community went to court. However, it was gathered that the court gave a ruling, Wednesday, restricting Ekundayo from further tampering with the land.
Apparently irked by the court's ruling, he was said to have stormed the community with three buses loaded with thugs and they started unleashing mayhem on everyone on sight. They reportedly vandalised several vehicles and looted shops.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said he was yet to get details of the incident. However, a source close to his office which confirmed the clash said the police had arrested 15 persons in connection with the mayhem.
