The Minister of Education Youth and Sports, Dr. Minkailu Bah yesterday cautioned football stake holders to consider the future of the country's football when voting in the forthcoming Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) congress.
The SLFA elective congress will take place between next week Friday and Saturday.
Speaking at a consultative meeting, Dr.Bah advised stake holders not to consider any financial or material motive before exercising their voting right.
"Let us go to the congress with open options ready to vote for the future of football and not financial or material considerations. Sierra Leone should come first in your minds when you make decisions," he urged.
"Our success in this exercise will be regarded as a step forward in support of the call by His Excellency the President for attitudinal change in all spheres of our lives and sports is not an exception." Dr. Bah maintained that whoever emerges as president of the football association in the forthcoming elections will only succeed if he has the total support of all the stakeholders.
The minister also noted that in sports, men and women should work as a family for the good of the game.
"I therefore take this opportunity to appeal to you all to work as one football family. Let us set aside the divisive approach that has been responsible for our past inability to win the hearts and minds of our compatriots," he appealed.
Dr. Bah expressed the government's positive commitment to develop football and thanked President Ernest Koroma and his vice, Sam Sumana and all those who worked hard to ensure that football's world governing body FIFA lifted the ban imposed on the national stadium.
SLFA President, Nahim Khadi supported the minister's call for unity noting that even if he win or lose the forthcoming election as a candidate, he will work with anyone to promote football in the country.
Second aspiring vice presidential candidate of the Dream Team, Rodney Michael applauded the minister for his advice saying though untimely it will yield a good dividend.
