Nigeria: Sokoto Ulama Petitions Soha Over CJ

The Sokoto State Council of Ulama and Imams has sent a written petition to the state House of Assembly against the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Aishatu Sani Dahiru for alleged abuse of power and breach of constitutional provisions.

The petition, jointly signed by the council's Chairman, Sheikh Abubakar Jubril, the Secretary, Muhammad Uthman Aliyu and Mallam Bello Yabo was read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Alhaji Mohammad Mainasara Ahmed.

Other allegations in the petition included lack of transparency and breach of financial regulation in the award of contracts in the state judiciary.

In the petition, she was also accused of delaying of justice for her inability to deliver judgement on several cases.

The Speaker, Abdullahi Balarebe Salame refereed the matter to the House committee on Judiciary for investigation.
