The Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda, has reassured the population that the polio vaccine found to have secondary allergy is not found in the country.

Following an article by Mutation on the harmful effect of the polio vaccine withdrawn from circulation in France, the Health Minister and the country representative of the World Health Organisation, WHO, jointly published a communiqué to the effect that this particular vaccine, DTPolio R doesn't exit in Cameroon.

Mama Fouda stated that DTPolio R is designed for children of more than six years and that since June 12, the Sanofi Pasteur Laboratory and a health security agency in France withdrew the vaccine from circulation as a precautionary measure prior further investigation.

He argued that the polio vaccine harmonised since 2006 in Cameroon is known as DUTAVAX R meant for children of 11 years and above, imported by private firms and does not present any problems.

He maintained that in the Expanded Programme of Immunisation, meant for infants, mothers and children, the vaccines administered for children aged 0-11 months and pregnant women are oral and not injected.
