A TOTAL of nine students graduated with diplomas and certificates in beauty therapy and hairdressing at a colourful ceremony held at the Meikles Hotel during the week.

This was only the second graduation ceremony for the college since its inception in 2001.

The director of standards development and quality assurance in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Mr F.B Pesanayi capped the graduands and asserted that the eight-year-old academy was growing from strength to strength due to the quality of education that it offered.

Pesanayi commended Tyrone's Cosmetology Centre for becoming the first college to offer Diplomas in beauty therapy and hairdressing.

"We are very proud to be associated with Tyrone's College and over the years they have proved that they really can make a difference in the world of beauty.

"The industry of Beauty and cosmetology is wide growing and Tyrone's has been making a huge contribution to that industry through its students," he said.

Director for Tyrone's, Ms Marilyn Muyendesi said the college has been growing as evidenced by the ever-increasing number of students.

She however, said they have been facing challenges as there is a lack of beauty products while some products are not available locally.

Limited financial resources had also affected the institution's operations.

"The demand for quality beauty products is high whilst the resources to meet them are scarce. These challenges have provided a unique stimulus to the institution to rethink, be innovative and creative by creating some of their own products.
