THE Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kwara State has petitioned the inspector general of Police to urgently investigate the mysterious attacks/killings of about six Christians in Ilorin in the last three weeks otherwise the Christians may be forced to react in self defence. This is contained in a statement signed by the state secretary of CAN Reverend Cornelius Fawenu, a copy of which was exclusively made available to Sunday Vanguard in Ilorin.

It would be recalled that tension recently enveloped Ilorin, Kwara State capital over rumour of fear of attack by by some unknown persons a development that forced residents to return home as early as 6.00 pm Monday when the rumour made the rounds despite of assurance by the police command and the state government that there was no curfew.

Worried by the situation, Imam and Alfas in Ilorin, Kwara State converged Tuesday at the Ilorin Central Mosque to appeal to Allah to expose those they claimed are behind the peddling of the rumours.

The meeting of these clerics at the Holy Mosque of Ilorin was the follow-up to the Christians leaders in the state who embarked on three days fasting and special prayers to call on God to allow peace and tranquility reign supreme in Ilorin and its environment. No fewer than six people were reported to have been killed in the last three weeks by these silent killers.

The police commissioner, Mr Donald Iroham at a press conference, Monday, told journalists that the police can only work on reported cases and not rumours thereby urging the residents to disregard the rumour making the rounds that blood sucking people are on the loose in the state capital.

The state government apparently worried by the sight of people running indoors by six pm made consistent radio announcements that there was no curfew in the state and so people should go about their normal and legal businesses a plea which the residents ignored.
