President Paul Kagame yesterday urged investors to respect the investment guidelines and honour their pledges. He said this during celebrations to mark the seventh Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) taxpayer's day in Kimihurura.

Kagame hailed both the tax collectors and the tax payers for working together, which has yielded into an increase in the revenues collection because it gives the country capacity to achieve economic freedom, to break away from the yoke of donors and foreign funding.

He further warned the investors who, when they fail to respect rules guiding the investment process in Rwanda, go spreading propaganda that Rwanda does not embrace investors.

He said people like those take themselves to be indispensable, so they contemptuous of the terms of the agreement.

The celebrations are held to acknowledge tax payers in different categories for their commitment towards paying taxes.

Last year, RRA collected 252 billion FRW. This year's celebrations also marked the 10th anniversary since the RRA was put in place.

During the occasion, the best taxpayers both individuals and companies, as well as partners in the progress of RRA tax collection process, were awarded trophies and certificates, depending on the responsiveness and efficiency at paying the taxes, the amount of taxes they paid, and compliance to guidelines of paying taxes. The heads of taxation bodies from Uganda, Congo and Kenya were also present during the celebrations.
