Sierra Leone: SLBS Kenema Warned of Imminent Danger

Kenema — Branch manager of National Insurance Company (NIC) in Kenema last week disclosed that his company building housing the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS) is a death trap.

Mohamed Mannah said the situation has warranted NIC to issue a notice to the management of SLBS to relocate the station so that immediate rehabilitation of the building will commence.

He maintained that the building leaks when it rains thus making it extremely difficult for official operations to take place.

"The situation is unfavourable. We have not been able to work effectively because when it rains, the building gets wet. I have plans to move NIC office to my residence for the mean time until the building is rehabilitated," he said.

An SLBS reporter, Fayia Amara, described the development as unfortunate. He said the building gets wet when it rains and the station's equipments are at risk of getting spoilt.

He added that the building is likely to collapse someday and called on authority concerned to effect the movement of the station to another location without delay.

When contacted, SLBS Kenema station manager Andrew Smith confirmed the deplorable condition of the building saying the station's equipment are not safe because the walls and floor of the building are cracked.

He however disclosed that the SLBS management in Freetown has been informed about the situation and that the station will soon be relocated.
