A new Vice Principal who will serve in that capacity for the next two years has been voted into office at the Northern Polytechnic in Makeni Saturday.

Samuel Saidu Kamara, the incumbent Vice Principal, was re-elected into office through the ballots.

Making a statement, Kamara said his winning came as a result of his hard work. He called on lecturers to lend him their support as he endeavours to improve the academic status of the college.

Other contestants for the post were senior principal lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies, Dominic Foday Momoh and the principal lecturer and Head of Department of Education, David Saspo Fornah.

The election was conducted by the registrar of the college, Mohamed H.S Bangura on a secret ballot system.

After the voting process, counting was done in the presence of the aspirants. Total voter turnout was 35 and winner Kamara got 23 votes while Momoh got 8 votes and Fornah managed to secure 4.

However, the losers accepted the outcome of the elections and pledged to give their cooperation to Kamara for the improvement of the college.

Dean of Students Affairs, M. I. Munu said he was pleased with the manner in which the election was conducted. He thanked the losers for genuinely accepting the defeat which he said was a clear demonstration of their progressiveness.

Sources closed to the college said the term of office of the current Principal will soon end and the position will be declared vacant.
