Sierra Leone: Bo Gov't Hospital Needs Capacity Building

During a meeting with the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Soccoh Kabia, on Friday, Matron of the Bo Government Hospital called for the capacity building of the hospital to improve the status of nurses and staff.
Josephine Tucker told the minister to ensure that students studying nursing at Njala University, Bo campus stay in Bo to help improve services rendered by the hospital.
Responding, Dr. Kabia said the point has been noted and expressed his determination to ensure that the elements in the hospital work efficiently.
"I am going to straighten things in the entire health sector in the country and get the desired results," he said and appealed to nurses that Bo hospital is not the only hospital facing constraints but he is working assiduously to improve the condition of service of the entire health workers in the country.
Dr. Kabia urged them to work hard and stop all malpractices which will destroy the operations of the hospital adding that their incentives will soon be increased.
He also mentioned that the hospital will soon have critical care, surgeon, radiologist, psychiatrist, pediatrician units with drug supplies.
In appreciation of the visit, Tucker said: "We at Bo Government Hospital embrace you for your contribution and the respect shown to us" and added that the minister's action proves that he wants to turn the health sector around.
She said it shows that the minister put premium on the welfare of nurses and is ready to address their constraints and challenges. She pledged their support to work with the government and take virtue in saving the nation.
Medical superintendent, Alimamy Koroma pledged to work with the government in order to ensure a healthy district. He said he will ensure that discipline, transparency and accountability reflect in the hospital.
Koroma also called on nurses and doctors to stop any corrupt practice that will cause the down fall of the hospital. He promised to take inventory of all equipment in the hospital as he plans to improve the district's health sector.
