Sierra Leone: Vox Pop: Peoples' Views On President Koroma's Assessment of Cabinet Ministers

President Ernest Bai Koroma Thursday commenced a first quarter assessment of his ministers since they signed the performance agreement earlier this year.

During the opening session of the start of the assessment, the President said his first year has not been rosy and that as the president he will be forced to take hard decisions after the assessment.

However Concord Times' Alhassan Bah and Ben Samuel Turay Saturday took to the streets of Freetown to get the views of people on the President's decision.

Failures must be fired Mrs. Irene Kamara Business woman Old Railway Line Brookfields I think the ministers agreed to the terms and conditions binding their work as were laid down in the performance agreement so if they have failed they must be fired and get a better replacement.

Anybody who can't do his or her work properly must be fired. The president stated in his opening speech that he was not in power to disappoint the people and before any minister will disappoint him, he will be the first person to disappoint that particular minister. The president's decision is what we are expecting from any sober-minded leader.

Koroma's 'hard decision' is welcomed Gibrilla S. Kanu Teacher Murray Town Junior Secondary School I want to welcome the president's idea of taking hard decision on any minister. It is a good step by the president as it will determine how serious he is about delivering the best for Sierra Leone.

However, I want to advise that if any minister is sacked, his or her replacement must not be sacked so easily. This will prevent the president from being accused of too much sacking. I welcome his decision.

Koroma should fire some ministers Rugiatu Bangura Business woman Kissy Road Since the ministers took up office, I have not seen anything visible that they have done. It is a good idea for the president to assess the ministers very early about the good and bad work they have done during their term of office.

He should replace some and if the replacements also perform badly, the president should keep on sacking until he gets the right person that will work in the interest of the nation.

Bravo President Koroma!

Taimu Bangura Plumber Rawdon Street Bravo President Koroma! This is a start of a long development process by the president. These are the type of presidents we were looking for. He should continue sacking ministers that cannot deliver. Any minister who was not able to deliver as he or she promised during the performance agreement, it means that the minister's intention was to tarnish the good work of the government. It will be good if Koroma identifies these ministers and get rid of them at once.

Koroma is our saviour Idrissa Bangura Tailor Robert Street I am happy about President Koroma's decision to take stringent action against non-performing ministers. If his decision requires reshuffling his cabinet, so be it. We are tired of having ministers that cannot perform. These are the sort of presidents we are looking for; those who will relieve us from the poor performance of ministers. We are looking for a positive change for the betterment of the nation. Koroma has been our prayer and I want to thank him. He brings to light those things which the nation should take notice of. We now know why he was very keen about us changing our attitude. If our attitude is changed, things will be fine for everyone of us.

Koroma should sack ministers who fail Aruna Ishmail Bangura Business Man Circular road I think President Koroma should sack any minister that fails to perform. In governance, performance is the most important thing. They signed the agreement and they must comply. We cannot continue having ministers without any checks and balances. It is our country that will retrogress. I think the president should, as he had said, take hard decision on failing ministers. Any country that wants to move forward must have the right person in the right place. If not, Sierra Leone will continue to struggle until we change our attitude. This time we should put tribalism aside and join hands together for the country's development.

Salone has gotten the right leader Abdulai Kallon Student Syke Street I am happy for the president's decision because a minister who has not done a good job should be asked out. They were appointed to improve on the standard of the people so if they can't deliver, I think it will be good they are changed. This decision shows that Sierra Leone has gotten the right leader. It has been a while since I heard a president take such decisions in this country.

Koroma's decision is positive Fatmata Conteh Cookery Seller PZ I think that was the most positive statement I have ever heard from a president in several years. That's how a leader should be: firm and decisive. If John cannot perform, replace him with Mary, maybe she can do better. I am happy for the decision taken by the president because he is the leader of the party and the government. This was why we voted him to power. We need him to lead us the right way so that we will not be punished.

Ministers should work in the interest of the people Hassan Tarawallie Labourer Adelaide Street I think ministers should work in the interest of the people and not in their own selfish interest so if they have failed to do just that, they must be replaced by sober minded, patriotic Sierra Leoneans. I am very glad about President Koroma's decision to inform the ministers about their poor performance earlier. If you give somebody responsibility and the person fail to perform, I think he or she must be fired. I welcome the president's decision.
