Nigeria: Plateau Indigenes Commend Jang

Birnin Kebbi — Plateau state indigenes in Kebbi State have commended the state governor, Jonah David Jang, for bringing peace back to the state after some years of political and religious crisis.

They also praised the governor for prompt payment of workers' salaries.

The plateau indigenes at an emergency meeting in Birnin Kebbi confessed that some of them fled the state because of insecurity.

The association in a statement signed by Pankyes Bahago Bako and made available to THISDAY yesterday said the people of the state now have confidence in the ability of the governor to move the state forward.

According to them, since 2001, Plateau indigenes in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara and some northern states have not been allowing their children to study in the state because of protracted crisis.

According to them: "Plateau state indigenes resident in Kebbi state have given the administration of Governor Jonah Jang excellent rating because of his achievements in one year which include peace in the state, prompt payment of workers salaries and the transformation of the rural areas.

"The levels of stability in the state have made us to start sending our children back home to school which use to be the practice prior to 2001. Since 2001 we plateau state residence in Kebbi, Sokoto, and other far northern state stopped sending our wards home to school due to incessant strike by teachers in the state as a result of non payment of salaries."

The indigenes also praise Jang's administration for road rehabilitation, water supply and the development of rural areas that had been abandoned by previous government.

They advised the opposition in the state to be constructive so as not to divert the attention of the present administration in the state, adding that some of the criticisms recently are baseless and not genuine.

"The present opposition in the as far as we are concern are not sincere with their criticisms because they were part of the former administration in the state," they also added.

Besides, the Plateau indigenes also lent their weight behind the appointments of credible Plateau indigenes such as Nanlking Bagudu, Joel Gwatau, NaíAllah Mutbam, Nabasu Yakubu and Nanle Dasheng in the present administration.
