Angola: Cote d'Ivoire Defence Minister in Angola to Gather Experience

Luanda — The Defence minister of Côte d'Ivoire, Nguessam Amani Michel, arrived Monday in Luanda for a four-day working visit aimed at collecting experiences on issue related to management of war crisis and re-structuring of the West African nation's armed forces, ANGOP has learnt.

The Ivorian armed forces senior officer said this upon his arrival in the country, at the head of Defence ministry's delegation, with a view to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in the sector.

"Our visit to Angola is of friendship, fraternity and work and also serves to collect some experiences to come out of the crisis" and learning on how Angola has managed the situation of crisis and re-structured its armed forces", stressed the minister.

He also expressed, on behalf of his president, Laurent Gbagbo, and of the people of Côte d'Ivoire, thanks to the Angolan Government for its assistance extended during the period of the armed conflict in the West Africa country.

The Defence minister also recognised that Cote d'Ivoire is very slowly coming out of this situation of crisis.

The visiting delegation was received at the Luanda International Airport by the Angolan Defence minister, general Kundi Paihama, the high-ranking military officials and by the embassy staff of that African country accredited in Angola.

Topping the agenda is the bilateral talks, expected to start on Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Angolan Defence Ministry, in which the minister Nguessam Amani Michel will lead his team in talks, whereas the Angolan delegation will be headed by minister Kundi Paihama.

On Wednesday the Ivorian minister will meet in audience with the National Assembly Speaker, Roberto de Almeida, and with Prime-minister, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Visits to the military unit of Special Forces Brigade, in Cabo Ledo, northern Bengo province, to Higher Institute of Police Sciences, Higher Institute of Military Education (ISEM), and to the Army General Staff in Luanda, are part of the visiting programme of the Cote d'Ivoire's defence minister.
