Gusau — Zamfara State government has agreed to pay striking teachers of primary and secondary schools the Teachers' Salary Scale (TSS) if teachers in the state agree to withdraw from the on going nationwide strike action and discuss with the government.
In a one page press release signed and made available to Daily Trust in Gusau yesterday by the state's Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Sanda Mohammed Danjari, the state said it is willing to implement the payment of the TSS for teachers in the state.
He however warned that the teachers should attend a meeting with the state government and other stakeholders where an agreement would be entered into.
"Zamfara State government wishes to declare its readiness to implement whatever is the outcome of the NUT, government and other stakeholders of education in a negotiation meeting on Teachers Salary Scale (TSS) for its primary and post primary schools of the state.
"Government therefore, invites the leadership of the state NUT and other stakeholders of education for the commencement of dialogue on TSS at the state level in order to have a consensus position for the implementation of the new salary scale for teachers," the release said.
Alhaji Danjari in the release said the state government was convinced that the welfare of teachers needed to be enhanced and made attractive.
