Kigali — Sunday July 13, 2008 will be viewed by the Rwanda rugby fraternity as a turning point after BCR dressed seven of the national league teams, not withstanding the Silverbacks! The colorful event was held at the School of Finance and Banking (SFB).

"I was impressed with the Rwandan rugby players' spirit. They basically had nothing but kept on playing their game. We hope this will encourage them to continue, BCR Managing Director, David Kuwana said after handing rugby jerseys worth over Frw7 million to the Rwanda Rugby Federation.

Kuwana, who pledged more support also called upon other corporate bodies to support Rugby in Rwanda. Rugby has been in Rwanda since 2002. It has grown from a bunch of enthusiasts to command a great following.

There are over 20 schools playing rugby and taking part in the schools' league, eight men's teams in the national league and four women's teams.

Rwanda's male national side, the Silverbacks, recently brought home two trophies from a Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) commissioned tournament in Burundi.

Alexis Kamanzi, the RRF president, thanked BCR for their wonderful gesture and called upon, just like Kuwana, other corporate bodies to also support rugby as it still has a long way to go.

An exhibition 7s game, where the RRF president exhibited some great footwork, was played to the entertainment of the big crowd present.

Also, Kamonyi District supported Puma RFC played their league game at the same venue against Kanombe's Simba. Puma beat Simba 26-6.

During the same occasion, Gorilla RFC received their long overdue trophy of the 2007 national league. Also present were MTN CEO Khumalo Themba and Rabo bank Managing Director Ian Lowitt.
