Ahead of today's ruling in an election petition filed by the Action Congress governorship candidate, Raufu Aregbesola against the governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola over last year's governorship election in the state, tension is mounting as armed policemen and soldiers have taken over the state capital.
Our correspondent who was in Osogbo yesterday observed that virtually all the strategic locations within the town had heavy presence of military and armed policemen.
At the Osogbo High Court venue of the election petition tribunal, armed military and policemen were placed at strategic areas around the court premises, while court workers were screened before they could be allowed into the premises.
The state secretariat, Oja Oba, the Palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, and other prominent areas in the state capital were manned by heavily armed men. Our correspondent had to do a lot of explanation before he could be let go by armed military men who stopped him upon entering the city.
The AC governorship candidate, Aregbesola has called for the disbanding of the election tribunal in the state for alleged compromise, and vowed not to accept the verdict of the tribunal even if such verdict was in his favour.

This followed claims by a magazine based in Lagos that the members of the electoral tribunal led by Justice Thomas Narom maintained correspondence with the state governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and his counsel, Kunle Kalejaiye (SAN), which it said was against professional and ethical standards.
