Winner of the July 5 local council elections in ward 375 in the Freetown municipality has expressed his desire to vie for the position of deputy mayor of Freetown City Council (FCC) after being declared as the elected councilor.
Samuel Bonghor Sesay's desire to become deputy mayor surfaced soon after his election as councilor as he was touted in some quarters to be a very good favourite for the position.
The position of deputy mayor is determined by two factors: success in the local council elections in terms of popular vote and backing from elected councilors.
Sesay told Concord Times on Sunday that his intention to go for the deputy mayorship position has the full backing of his people adding that if he is indeed elected to council, he is confident of becoming the deputy mayor.
"With the recent provincial results announced by the national electoral commission in which I am strongly in the lead, I believe that I have fulfilled one of the criteria for the position," he said.
He noted that his people see him as the right man for the position because of his previous experience as a councilor, adding that he will be ready to work with the mayor to transform and modernize the city.
Sesay said he has succeeded in commissioning a bridge for both motorists and pedestrians, as well as constructing a reservoir for the people of Sorie Town, Leicester Road and Sumaila Town.
"I am one of the councillors that initiated the idea for the construction of the Bleganza community centre at Ambrose Street.
