Kosmos Energy, an oil drilling company, has presented a cheque for GH¢20,000 to the Western Region Education Trust Fund, in Sekondi last Thursday.
The Country Manager of the company, Mr. George Owusu, presented the cheque on behalf of his company, which was received by the Regional Minister, Anthony Evans Amoah, for onward submission to the Deputy Regional Minister, Mr. Kwasi Blay, who is the Acting Chairman of the Fund.
Earlier, Mr. Owusu said the oil companies, which were going to be established, would generate more employment for the people in the region, and this was the time for the people to educate themselves, to enable them benefit from the oil find.
Mr. Anthony Amoah expressed his happiness that the donation was going to support the funding of students in the region, adding that if the fund were to be made an umbrella fund, it would complement other educational trust funds instituted by the various traditional authorities in the region.
The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to Kosmos Energy, for the gesture, and paid glowing tribute to the former Western Regional Minster, Mr. Joseph Boahene Aidoo, during whose term the fund was established.
He also appealed to other corporate bodies, to contribute generously to the fund.
