American hip hop superstar Wyclef Jean will be performing in Kampala come August 1 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. Wyclef started professional singing in the '90s when he, Pras and Lauryn Hill as The Fugees signed to Ruffhouse Records, which released the group's debut album, Blunted on Reality.
The Fugees produced hot songs in the 90s like Ready or Not which lifted Wyclef to fame. Jean announced plans to begin a solo career in 1997.
In 2000, he recorded his second album entitled The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book with 911 as a single featuring Mary J. Blige. Jean's third album, Masquerade, was released in 2002. His fourth album, The Preacher's Son, was released in November 2003. Right now, Wyclef has released a new song called Fast Car and recently, Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) featuring Lil' Wayne, Niia and Akon, is doing well in the world music charts. He will be performing with DJ Benny D who scratched discs during Akon's visit to Uganda a few months back. Celtel Uganda which brought Akon is reportedly to be behind Wyclef's visit and the tickets will go for uShs35,000.
