Kampala — UGANDA'S amateurism in volleyball was exhibited in the men's 3-1 loss to Rwanda in the 5th edition of the All Africa University Games final at Lugogo on Monday.
After watching the women team beat South Africa in the earlier final, all eyes were on an out of sorts men's team to get a miracle in the men's final of the highly billed game.
Losing the first set to the Rwandans 25-20, the Ugandans came back to take the second 24-26, and raise hopes of lifting a volleyball double.
However reality downed in the third set when Uganda, 23-21 ahead, failed to break the Rwandans, who went on to win 26-24. Uganda lost the fourth set 25-15 for Rwanda to take the title.
Uganda needs a draw against South Africa to win the soccer gold in a match set for 10am at Namboole today, after a goalless draw with Ghana yesterday.
The soccer event, with only three teams is being played on a league basis.
