Lagos — A Warri High Court 11 presided over by Justice Rosaline Pemu yesterday afternoon deposed HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, of Uvwie kingdom in Delta State, saying that he is only maternally related to the kingdom.

The royal father was installed barely four months ago and duly issued a staff of office by the Delta State government.

Addressing a press conference at the palace at Effurun after the judgment by Justice Pemu, the assistant secretary to the Uvwie traditional Council of Chiefs, Chief Hope Erute stated that the regency of the Chief D. D. Atiyota has been restored and urged the good people of Uvwie kingdom to feel free to now bring all their issues to the council for adjudication.

Chief Erute said the process of selection, installation and subsequent government recognition of the dethroned Abe 1 was wrapped in deep politics and community intrigues against accepted traditional norms and practices, saying that now that the court has nullified his kingship the regency has automatically been restored and enjoined every one to be calm and go about their lawful business.

Speaking further on the suit instituted in 2004 by a Lagos- based stockbroker, Mr. Monday Joseph Arubasa, also from the Abe ruling house, against the enthronement of the deposed royal father, said he warned of the consequences of installing the king, expressing joy that the judiciary has come to his rescue as the last hope of the common man.

Said he: "I told them that everything they are doing was wrong. They claimed to have all the political connections to do whatever they wish.

As a poor and lazy man, I went to the law court knowing full well I will be vindicated. I thanked the courage of the trial Judge.

The judgement has vividly shown that the judiciary is our last hope against the oppressive tendencies of some people in our communities".

Meanwhile, the regent of the kingdom, Chief D. D. Egere Atiyota has appealed to the youths of the kingdom to remain peaceful as everything would be done to properly set in motion due process of selection and installation of a new monarch for the people that would assuage the thirst of Uvwie people.

Uvwie town has been taken over by fierce looking Anti-riot policemen conducting thorough stop and search to forestall break down of law and order just as Chief Hope Erute said they are not afraid of the defeated party going on appeal but assured that the points being canvassed by the plaintiff are customarily grounded and well entrenched.
