Nigeria: Cholera Outbreak Claims Six Lives in Zaria

Zaria — CHOLERA outbreak is reported to have killed six persons while 30 others were hospitalised in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A medical source at Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Zaria, Kaduna State that six persons reportedly died, while no fewer than 30 were currently receiving treatment.

The affected areas were Gyallesu,Tudun Wada, Unguwar Alfadarai and Kusfa in Zaria council area.

Dr Aminu Yusuf, the Head of Health, Zaria local government, confirmed that only two persons died as a result of the outbreak.

Yusuf, who was quoting from official records, said in Zaria that six people were being treated in the hospital.

He said the council had put in place some emergency measures to control the spread of the killer disease.

Dr. Usman Tanko of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABU), Zaria, attributed the cholera outbreak to lack of good drinking water and poor health services in the affected communities.
