Lagos — ATTORNEY General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) has been conferred with the prestigious Nelson Mandela Award for Leadership by the Pan African Transparent Leadership Centre (PATLC), Accra, Ghana.
PATLC is a consortium of African intellectuals on the continent and diaspora that admits Africans who have distinguished themselves in their different fields of human endeavours, into the "hall of fame".
The award is an annual event.
Specifically, the Pan African Transparent Leadership Centre said the award on the Minister was in recognition of his transparent antecedents, exemplary leadership qualities, and excellence in service as well as his monumental contributions towards the growth of democracy in Nigeria.
The Centre has since its establishment been deeply involved in the task of man power development, skills acquisition, competences in the management of human and capital resources as well as promotion of heroic leadership and veritable attribute of leaders.
A statement by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Special duties, Hon. Onov Tyuulugh quoted the Nomination Committee of the Centre as saying "the Minister has met the entire specified criteria for the award by his demonstration of courage and great commitment in enthroning the Rule of Law, justice sector reforms and protection of human rights and freedoms."
The formation of the Centre started in May 2004 in Johannesburg, South Africa, when consultation amongst some committed professionals and leaders of African descent both at home and in diaspora took place.
The idea of the Centre was conceived because of the glaring multi-faceted problems and challenges facing the continent despite monumental feat and outstanding achievements of the people of African descents in all fields of human endeavours.
The concern of the Centre was to celebrate and immortalize the ingenuity of African professionals and leaders who have contributed to the development and actualization of the African dream."
