Uganda: Youth in HIV Partnership

Kampala — TEENS Uganda, a student association, has teamed up with the Aids Information Centre to carry out HIV tests at the Makerere University exhibition in the ongoing All Africa University Games.

The voluntary tests, which got underway last week, are open to all participants at the event that has drawn over 15 universities from the continent.

"This exercise is open to all students and officials from all the universities and anyone who visits the event," said Patrick Mwebaze, a member of the youth committee.

The initiative is aimed at raising awareness and bolstering the campaign against the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Mwebaze said for the campaign to meet its objectives, it is necessary that are communities sensitised.

Therefore, it has to begin with people knowing their sero-status.

Daniel Lukenge, the youth coordinator, said they had received condoms from the Ministry of Health. "We are giving out the condoms after demonstrating how to use them," he said.
