The findings of a probe team investigating the collapse of a 10-storey building in Dar es Salaam will not be made public anytime soon, an official has said.

Although the committee tasked to investigate the collapse of the ill-fated building has completed the probe and submitted its findings, the official revealed that the report was not yet ready for public consumption.

Dar es Salaam regional commissioner Abbas Kandoro, who received the report yesterday, said the report would first be forwarded to the government for further action.

Curiosity among the people to know the facts surrounding the incident heightened after authorities, in an apparent testimony of the seriousness of the issue, appointed the probe team, chaired by Mr Joe Malongo.

But after receiving the report, Mr Kandoro said it was not yet time for the public to know its contents since the case was pending in court.

He added that the report had to be studied first, and compared with a similar one by a team appointed by former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa, before decisions were made.

"My office will collaborate with the permanent secretary in the Prime Minister's office and other experts to study the two reports so that we can produce one government statement on building matters to solve the thorny issues permanently, " said Kandoro.

The RC called for patience saying the report would not be made public as soon as people might have expected.

And the chairman of the probe team, Mr Malongo, said investigations were very difficult due to time limits but added his team had been thorough and managed to capture all aspects as best as they could. He, however, could not hint at any of the team's findings.

Among other things, the team was assigned to review the architectural drawings of the building and investigate the granting of the permit to the owner of the building.

It was also tasked with finding out whether or not the building was properly surveyed, the architect and engineers deserved the tender and the municipal engineers visited the site to inspect its progress.
