Repair work on the Senchi Bridge, across the Volta Lake at Atimpoku, linking the Volta and the Eastern Region, is gradually progressing, as technical personnel are doing their best, to ensure safe vehicular movement across the bridge.

A visit to the area saw how passengers walked from one end of the bridge to the other, to continue their journey, with some saying it was their first time of walking on the bridge, and that it was interesting, while others said they feared walking on the bridge.

Meanwhile, a source close to the Ghana Highway Authority, said the bridge is closed from 9:00 a. m. to 12:00 p.m. daily, to pave way for repair works on the bridge, noting that work would be completed on the bridge, on the second of August this year.

According to the source, what happened could not be attributed to lack of maintenance, because technical officers of the Highway Authority carried out what he called regular observation on the bridge, and said the current damage to the mental component of the bridge, was due to excess pressure exerted on the bridge by big trucks, which carried heavy loads such as cement, weighing between sixty and eighty tonnes.

He was, however, pleased with the cooperation between drivers, and the Highway Authority, which was making it easier for the travelling public to understand the situation, as heavy duty vehicles were currently plying the Aflao-Sogakope road
