Kigali — After his three-day umpiring course, Subhash Modi was all praise for the 15 participants who took part in the course.
Briefing the local cricket governing body (RCA) executive before his departure, the ICC certified umpire said that he was delighted at the way the course had gone and how the participants actively took part in the event that was held at Hiltop motel in Remera.
"The guys were terrific. They are keen students and my humble request to RCA is to let them put in practice what they had learnt
"I want to see these guys umpiring in future league games," the Kenyan added.
Modi, father to Kenya's ex-international middle-order batsman Hitesh Subhash Modi, is one of the finest umpires in Africa and according to RCA.
"It was an honor to have him here but mostly importantly to have him passing on umpiring knowledge and skills to our cricketers.
"I'm sure they will put the knowledge to good use," RCA's president Charles Haba told Modi before his departure on Sunday.
Modi (65) played for Kenya in 1969 but his real skill and passion lay in umpiring, a love which continues to this day.
He boasts of vast umpiring experience after officiating in the ICC Trophy, the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia in 1998, 1999 World Cup as well as the Champions Trophy in 2000.
