Rwanda: Bralirwa Spices Up Golf Mug

Kigali — Rwanda's brewers and soft drink manufacturers, Bralirwa, the official sponsors of the Mützig monthly mug have spiced up the inaugural competition by introducing a rolling trophy.

According to Martina Gatabazi, the brand manager for Mützig, a golfer who wins three consecutive mugs will walk away with the trophy.

"The whole idea is to make the competition more interesting and maybe to lure more golfers to the course," she said.

While Kigali Golf Club captain Marcel Byusa said, "It is definitely a good challenge for golfers because wining the trophy means one has to be consistent for three good months."

Jack Kayonga became the latest mug winner when he won the May edition on Saturday.

Even with a below par performance of three-over, Kayonga who also doubles as the Kigali Golf Club president was delighted to break his trophy drought. He had not won a competition since March.

After Saturday's heroics, Kayonga now becomes the fourth winner of the competition after Francois Rugomboka, Andrew Nkwandi and Marcel Byusa.

The next mug edition has been scheduled for July 26.
