Harare — GROUND-BREAKING collaborations featuring seasoned and upcoming artistes have become a common phenomenon on the local music landscape as artistes thrive for excellence by combining their skills and talents.
Some projects that instantly come to mind include Flash Gordon's House of Stone which paraded both talent and experience.
Then, we had several projects from Chamhembe and several from Hear The Word Ministries, among other stables countrywide.
Collaborations have also shown that if combined efforts were cleverly blended, they would certainly wean a number of artistes.
The long list of artistes to have tasted success with this initiative include Oliver Mtukudzi, who in recent years made headlines for the projects he did with Ringo.
Sungura king Alick Macheso and Beatar Mangethe have benefited from this trend while Somandla "Mafia" Ndebele and Tongai Moyo will also be remembered for their duet Moyo Wekurera.
Although many artistes prefer not to do such recordings regularly, the healthy competition is really working.
One such is the gospel album Vamuporofita featuring three gospel music giants Machanic Manyeruke, Elias Musakwa and Peter Muparutsa.
The album exudes a high degree of proficiency, well-mastered instruments and highly synchronised lyrics.
Vamuporofita, the title track, urges prophets to seek divine intervention when dealing with spiritual matters.
The track further castigates false prophets who squander unsuspecting people's money.
"Makazvigona sei kutora rombe rakadai moriponesa" goes the lyrics of the second worship song, which talks about the grace of God and how he forgives sinners. It gives one an element of introspection.
The album gains tempo with the track-Dherira, which retells the Bible story of Samson and Delilah, put in our everyday context. The song urges men to desist from promiscuous behaviour as the line goes "Musakanganwe kumba simba renyu rinopera". It also encourages men to be faithful as failure to do so leads to the destruction of the family.
Toimba Hosana, Havana Kumuziva and Moyo Wangu are the other tracks on the album.
Muparutsa produced Vamuporofita at Shed Studios.
Manyeruke said they had hopes of coming up with more collaborations.
"This is a Ngaavongwe project and people are receiving our album well and we intend to make other projects in the future," said Manyeruke.
