Rwanda's APR surprisingly crushed out of this year's East and Central African Club championship (Kagame Cup) after conceding a 2-1 stunning loss to Zanzibar champions Miembeni FC yesterday.

The group C match played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam pre-tournament rank outsiders Miembeni FC proved sentiments wrong when they played a defensive game and were lethal in sporadic attacks.

Miembeni become the second team in the championship after Uganda Revenue Authority to win a quarter final berth.

After a see-saw affair Miembeni broke the stalemate after 42 minutes when Amri Kiemba made full use of Maulid Kapenta's through pass to score with ease past stunned APR goalie, Ndizeye Aime.

Beforehand, APR's defender Mwembere Ngirishuti fumbled with the ball inside the penalty box much to the benefit of Kapenta.

Shortly after, Odhiambo threw overboard an opportunity to level when his shot sailed over the cross bar with Miembeni keeper Farouk Ramadhan at his mercy.

Leading by a lone goal by half time, Miembeni's goal was kept under siege by the APR strikers for long spells.

Miembeni foiled most of APR's scoring attempts and took advantage of counter attacks to score their second goal through Kapenta after 71 minutes.

APR exerted pressure on the Miembeni goal to score their consolation goal through Baptise Mugiraneza who headed home Haruna Nzoyimana's cross with five minutes to regulation time.

The result has eased pressure for home teams, especially Yanga that has a match in hand against the Isles champions on Saturday.

In another match played at the same venue later in the day, Kenya's Tusker FC suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands pf Burundi champions, Vital'O, after conceding a 3-1 defeat.

The well drilled Burundi side that lost their opening match to unfancied Benadir of Somalia on Monday, scored their opening goal through Eric Gatoto after 16 minutes.

Ten minutes before the half time mark, Vital'O increased the tally to two through Nimuboma Kabungulu.

Tusker FC, that notched a 3-2 victory over seven times champions Simba in the opening match, were reduced to mere novices as the Burundi team were in full control.

As Tusker were looking for a formula to unlock the Vital'O defence, Stanley Minzi of the Burundi side notched the third goal after 67 minutes.

Henry Mbazumutimba made the spade work.

Tusker scored their consolation goal three minutes after conceding the third goal with Kenneth Wendo finalising a good work by Oscar Kadenge.

In Morogoro, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) cruised into the quarter finals after drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia's Awassa FC in a match played at Jamhuri Stadium.

URA were the first to score through Bagore Johnson after 26 minutes as Awassa FC pulled a life-line equaliser six minutes to regulation time.

Today Simba host Somalia's Benadir at the National stadium in Dar es Salaam.
