Nigeria: NAN MD Marks One Year in Office

Abuja — The Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, marked her one year in office yesterday with a call on staff for more cooperation and hard work.

In an appreciation letter addressed to staff, she recalled the past 365 days and acknowledged the sacrifices they made to ensure the modest achievements recorded.

Oyo said she had been able to ensure improved staff management, welfare, financial accountability, prudence and transparency, because of the support, cooperation and advice she enjoyed from staff.

"The contribution of all departments and every member of staff and other support personnel, is not lost on me," Oyo added.

She, however, said there was still a lot to be achieved in the task of uplifting the agency and ensuring its sustainable growth.

"The agency now serves an average of 250 stories per day up from about 60 stories per day and its output in terms of feature articles has increased exponentially.

"From Nov. 2007, NAN began to serve voice to its clients while visuals began in earnest early this year. Photos sent out have also increased tremendously.

"It is the case with the sale of our products as well as response to technical problems and the attendant solution", she added.

Oyo recalled that the agency had its first guest on the brand new programme NAN Forum on Africa in the person of the revered President of Ghana, John Kuffour.

Oyo, since assuming office, had embarked on renovation and building of new structures for the agency.

Among these are two new zonal offices in Ibadan and Jos as well as two state offices in Katsina and Yola.

An ultra modern news room building, which commenced shortly after she assumed office, is also nearing completion in Lagos while the corporate headquarters in Abuja is wearing a new look.

"It is, therefore, my personal honour to register this gratitude. There is still a lot to be achieved if we continue to give our best." Oyo said. (NAN)
