FLOOD wreaked havoc in Santar Na-Kellu village in Ingawa Local Government of Katsina according to an eye witness account
The eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina that 90 houses and several farmlands worth millions of naira were destroyed.
He said that the incident occurred at about 7.30 p.m. following a heavy rainfall which lasted for more than an hour.
According to reports, the rain, which resulted to the flooding of parts of the village, destroyed most of the houses and washed away crops.
Due to the incident, many of the victims now squat with neighbours whose houses were partly affected by the flood.
One of the victims, Malam Mohammed Musa said: "The flood has destroyed my house entirely and as a result I and my family are now squatting with a neighbour."
The Vice Chairman of Ingawa Local Government Council, Alhaji Nura Aliyu, and the District Head of Yandoma, Alhaji Sule Abubakar, have visited the village to sympathise with the victims of the flood.
Aliyu urged the people of the area to pray for God's protection from such a disaster and assured the victims of all necessary assistance from the council.
Abubakar, who described the incident as "unfortunate" however, directed the village head to list names of all the affected victims for onward submission to the local government council.
