Botswana: Garogwe Releases Second Album

Mosah Mokganedi

17 July 2008

Christian life, especially for a young person, is not easy and it is such difficulty that has influenced Thabang Garogwe's second album entitled Going Further.

Garogwe said the album reveals his growth as a Christian. The young Christian says he has faced a lot of difficulties but still managed to focus on his Christian life, hence 'going further'. Garogwe says as a Christian one should be able to learn to live with and accommodate all kinds of people.

The 28-year-old Digawana-born singer believes that singing is not just about making money but also about praising and spreading the Lord's message. He says he wants to give a testimony about his life through music. An accomplished producer, Garogwe says he grew up in a church setting and that is what has inspired his line of music. He says to be able to make it in life one needs to be positive and work hard. Garogwe said he produced Vee's album "Ditshipi tsame" and Maxy's "Chankaneng".

"Whatever you pronounce shall come to pass in your life," he asserts with an air of self-assurance. Garogwe's first album entitled "Torompeta" did well on the market, according to him. "I think it did well considering that it was a debut album," he adds. Garogwe, who grew up in Assemblies of God Church, said he started singing in church when he was still a young boy and only went professional in 2000. However, he said as a producer he is obliged to listen to all music genres so as to broaden his knowledge.

Garogwe, who defines himself as a born again Christian, says there is no better life than Christian life as it keeps one away from mischief, and thanks his parents for showing him the right way. Garogwe's new album has 16 songs that include Ga nkake ka boa, Tla go nna, Tshepo Yaka, Nka se swe, Ithemba Lam, Alpha le Omega, Boela Gae, Mponesetsa tsele, Jeso sefika laka, Jeso ke kgosi, Re tswa kgakala, O ntlogeletseng, Re thuse morena, Ha le lakatsa, tumelo yaka and Mme ke a leboga.

He also featured sensational gospel artists Vusi and Matheke Leteane. Though he cannot be rated among the best, he is doing relatively well, considering he is new in the market. Though from a Pentecostal background Garogwe's music approach is of the African churches' taste. He explained that gospel is broad and that he has cast his net wide to reach a wider audience.
