Nairobi — A former Sports minister Thursday asked the High Court to order a re-count of votes cast in Starehe constituency last December 27.
Mr Maina Kamanda, who is also the former Starehe MP, said from the file submitted to the court by the Electoral Commission of Kenya, it was difficult to know the number of votes each parliamentary candidate garnered.
While arguing his case before Mr Justice Kihara Kariuki, he said a recount would also save judicial time because he would not call the remaining witnesses set to testify.
Mr Kamanda, through lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, said the ECK was yet to trace some Forms 16A from Valley Bridge and Ndururuno polling stations.
The lawyer said a recount was necessary because the ECK not only made mistakes , but also made deliberate falsification of Forms 16A.
He said from evidence given in court, it was clear that there were unauthorised alterations on Forms 16A and 17A.
He said evidence in the ECK file also showed that photocopies were inserted to tilt the results.
