Zimbabwe: Adonia Crashes Out of Idols

18 July 2008

Harare — Zimbabwean Adiona's Maboreke Idols journey ended on Monday when she collected the least votes on the results show on M-Net.

It now remains to be seen whether the only Zimbabwean participant still in the house, Eric Moyo will bring home the coveted prize of US$80 000, come july 27.

Idols mentor Kawesa Richard had singled out Nicollette as the best performer on the night - after naming her as the weakest performer last week. He picked Adiona as his weakest performer on the night, but put her poor performance down to song choice.

The judges also weighed in with their opinions - TK and Scar both picked Adiona as the weakest of a very strong bunch, while Angela couldn't choose between Adiona and Nicollette.

After a brief question and answer with the contestants, Lebo got down to the dirty business of naming the contestant Africa thought was the weakest performer of the Top four.

He reminded the contestants of the judges' comments on their performances from the previous evening before opening the Alexander Forbes envelope.

He called Nicollette up to join him on stage, telling her that he had bad news for her. The news, though, wasn't that it was she who was being eliminated, but rather that she was to be the one who would tell her fellow contestants who was or wasn't safe. She carefully read out the names and verdicts - leaving all four bewildered contestants standing on stage!

Lebo put her out of her misery, though, telling her she was safe and could return to her seat and start preparing for her Top three performance.

After a tense commercial break, Adiona, Eric and Trinah were left standing and waiting for Lebo to break the news.

He didn't prolong the agony for long, immediately telling Adiona that she was the one to go this week. Now the focus turns to the eighth and penultimate Idols spectacular this weekend.
