Kampala — The family of Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire of the High Court Commercial Division has donated six transformers to the Mulago Hospital Special Care Unit.
Abou Kisige reports that the machines, donated on Tuesday, will be used to generate heat for babies born prematurely.
"As a family, we have decided to donate to the special care unit, which we learnt has six incubators but they lacked operational transformers," Kiryabwire said.
The 500-watt transformers have power regulators, allowing them to work for long hours without interruptions, Kiryabwire added.
He urged the public to stop accusing Mulago Hospital of incompetence and instead offer help.
"I think it is time to stop pointing fingers and raise up as users and stakeholders of these facilities to do something about their challenges."
The Mulago executive director, Dr. Edward Ddumba, thanked Kiryabwire's family, saying the transformers would help save lives of premature babies.
He promised to name Ward 3A (neurosurgery) after the judge's father, Jovan Kiryabwire, who made outstanding contribution to the hospital when he served there.
