A Malaysian film company, Take One Productions, is in the country to produce three movies and a TV drama series, starting August.

The firm will hold auditions this month, giving a chance to Ugandan actors, actresses and filming crew to get exposed to international audiences.

Speaking at a press conference at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala recently, the firm's international events coordinator, Nelly Rabotoson, said previous movies had portrayed Uganda as the ideal place for film-making.

"Movie projects such as Mississippi Masala and The Last King of Scotland created a positive image for Uganda. This has prompted big film-makers to come and do movie projects here," she said.

She said Malaysia-based Ugandan actor, John Wayne Muganza, who stirred in movies like Entrapment, Kelas Malam, Gadis Cuci and The Last King of Scotland would be one of the lead actors in the upcoming movies.

The firm's director and producer, CJ D, said they would produce three tele movies of 90 minutes each, namely; Snowhite - Part1 Am No Puppet - part 2 Aint No Sunshine, From Uganda with Love. The firm will also produce a TV dram series titled, Passionate Love, with 20 episodes, each 30 minutes long.

"About 60% of the production will be in Uganda and 40% in Malaysia. We are looking for the production and technical crew as well as local actors and actresses to take up supporting casts. We hope singers Jose Chameleone and Juliana Kanyomozi will feature in our projects."

He said the movies would promote Uganda's tourism and economy worldwide.

Muganza said the projects would need about 150 actors. Auditioning will take place in Kampala, Jinja and Kabale.
