Abuja — To ensure that staff catch up with the new world order, the FCT administration has established Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Lab in Area 11 (former Corporate Affairs Commission building), Garki, Abuja.
The FCT Minister, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar, made this disclosure yesterday in Abuja during the bi-monthly operational department briefing at the FCT Minister's official quarters in Gwarinpa Life-Camp, Abuja.
Umar noted that this feat was achieved with the support of the British Department For International Development (DFID).
The minister said the FCT administration would partner with Cisco Systems USA and Microsoft for training of both end users and technical staff.
He stated that the ICT Unit was already deploying e-government applications: HR+ (human resource), Internet mail/portal server, as well as e-procurement.
According to him, the FCT administration has re-designed its wireless/cable LAN, using Cisco technology as well as its implementation.
His words: "The administration has also re-designed the FCT website/webmail with in-depth content management system."
"We have procured a VOIP telephony/fax system with capacity for 25,000 lines and commissioned a Mast and Deployed a WIFI base station for connectivity to AGIS, Development Control, ICT LAB, Health Management Board to enhance our service delivery to the residents," he reiterated.
The minister remarked that the FCT administration would soon partner with the United Nations University, Centre for E-Governance, Macao, China to tap from the opportunities abound there.
He restated that the administration had embarked on all these programmes in order to reposition the administration to face new challenges and enhance ability of staff to adequately improve service delivery to the residents of the territory.
