Nigeria: Three Die in Kogi Over Alleged Food Poison

An uneasy calm has engulfed Mangongo in Ogori-Magongo local government area of Kogi State, following the sudden death of three members of the same family over alleged food poison.

Eyewitness informed our correspondent that the incident which occurred yesterday after an evening meal of "Amala" only for the community to discover that three member of Alikali family are dead with white foam coming out of their mouths in the morning.

The deceased include, the head of the family Mr. Edida Alikali, his wife Mrs. Eripe Alikali and their four year old daughter Endurance, while another member of the family is currently on danger list at the Okene General Hospital.

Our correspondent gathered that the younger brother of the deceased popularly called Aiyesimi was responsible for the food poisoning.

The source alleged that sometime last year the accused was arrested for poisoning the family's drinking water.

One of the villagers who did not want her name on print explained that the suspect has been boosting that he will kill the entire family of his brother over alleged misunderstanding relating to the sharing of some land belonging to the family after the demise of their father.

However, the suspect was said to have escaped to Edo state over night through the assistance of one of his sisters.

At the time of filling in this report, the traditional ruler of the community, Oba James Alao has directed the youth to fish out the suspect so that he can be handed over to the security agents.

Meanwhile, the state police commissioner, Mr. Ibe Aghanya said the state command is yet to be briefed on the incident.
