The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) satellite town settlers have been urged to join government in its ongoing efforts toward reclaiming the beauty of Abuja by making it peaceful and habitable as envisioned by the precursors of the Abuja dream.

The chairman of the council Mr. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo made the call while monitoring routine monthly waste evacuation exercise carried out by the council recently.

Dr. Jisalo who was represented by the council's Chief Environmental Health Officer Alhaji Tijjani Ado described perpetrators of random refuse dumping as saboteurs and unpatriotic citizens, adding that in view of the embarrassing nature of the menace, the Area Council would soon form a mobile court comprising patrol teams to arrest and try defaulters.

Alhaji Ado also expressed dissatisfaction at the strange nature where domestic disposed off on road side, pavements, culverts particularly in areas like Nyanya, Karu village and Jikwoyi communities. He therefore, warned that unless such irresponsibility stops it could pollute and spread communi-cable diseases.

He however, called on the general public especially house wives, food vendors/sellers and traditional rulers to sensitize their people on environmental protection and conservation to save aquatic and human lives.

The chairman also regretted that their behaviour has crippled the environ-mental sanitation exercises across the area council. He then reminded residences that the sanitation is not something that can only be shouldered by the council, saying it is a collective responsibility between government and the general public.
