Head of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) intelligent, investigation and prosecution has confirmed that the commission has convicted 33 persons charged with corruption in a Freetown court.

Evelyn Walker said that: "There were 64 court cases before the ACC. 60 have already been completed and the remaining 4 are still before the court." She told a one-day orientation session for civil society organisations that there are lots of corrupt practices going on in the country mostly used to influence the award of contract contrary to the Anti Corruption Act 2002 as amended.

She called on civil servants to work closely with the commission.

Director of public education and external outreach Dr. Ivan Ajibola-Thomas said there was need to educate the public about the evils of corruption, the setbacks to Sierra Leone's development.

He said if the level of corrupt practices were to be minimized now everybody would be surprised at economic growth that would be realised.

"The commission is working in close contact with all schools and universities against corruption, of which we have successfully established 27 integrated clubs," he said and warned that public officers who in the habit of misusing public funds should stop.
